2010 Lamb Crop Sires

Ewes Exposed - 23

There is no doubt; this stud is the REAL DEAL when it comes to a ram that can produce stylish productive wether types. Larry Shell, OK raised him, using him for two lamb crops, selling half interest to the Bianchi Family, CA, who have enjoyed two lamb crops by him. I was given the opportunity to purchase Larry’s share in the summer of ‘08’ and purchased Bianchi’s remaining half in the spring of ‘09’. Jedi combines powerful tops, good base width and size with a “great look”. A lot like Shell 355 (the sire of his dam) this stud has a great hip, extremely long hindsaddle and stamps a super big rack and leg into his offspring. What I really appreciate about this ram’s many strengths would be the frame, growth and Suffolk type he puts into his lambs. His pedigree is attached and be forewarned, he is not registered. Full registered ewes he breeds in the Kimm program allows me to offer percentage registered lambs (50%) and some of his lambs will be sold as wethers on the internet sale in mid April. Jedi will be used in the Tipton and Iowa City flocks this fall.

Ewes Exposed - 26

I try very hard to find a registered Suffolk backed by productive-consistent genetics. One that is a complete outcrosses to my program and that will keep muscle and structural design in check. This ram, I feel, is all of that and hopefully more. Bred and used by Darrell Howard, OK, long time Suffolk breeder, where he sired two successful lamb crops. This proven stud comes from a flock that I have viewed on several occasions while on tours with students over the years and I have always admired Howard’s consistent beautiful females. 6070 will not be the largest ram I turn out this fall but he is very straight lined, squared topped, excellent muscle and tied together in a very balanced package. His lambs should find friends from both the club lamb and medium frame Suffolk flocks interested in showing females. If you check out his extended pedigree, you will find Hickman W-44 several times on the dam’s side, this was a genetic line which has been known for combining muscle and production together with a ‘great look’. He will be used in all three flocks this fall.

Ewes Exposed - 15

Purchased in the spring of ‘08’, this ram was used by Willard as a lamb and yearly, producing a very consist crop, especially outstanding females. He did all that for me as well and his lambs found favor from those in attendance at the 2009 production sale. He is a complete package, expressing a huge rack and carrying out extremely level and long in the hip. One obvious trait that he possesses is fleshing ability, he is an easy keeper, which should be a great trait for daughters placed into the brood flock. “Harry” stands squarely on his underpinning, has good bone and expresses great base width. Simply put he is a full-bodied ram with excellent top muscle and he sires more style then he himself possesses. Be forewarned, he does sire lambs with a lot of Hampshire character. He will be used at the Iowa City flock this fall.

A Shell 355 son who combines style (super hip shape), length, and muscle along with respectable growth and sires all of the above very consistently in his offsrping. This ram does not make many mistakes, no matter what he is bred to. He is the RR son I was hoping 355 would produce for me. 7011 keeps that ‘look’ in his lambs while maintaining strong maternal traits, this guy is the ‘ticket’. His dam is a Mc 02-67 daughter, a bloodline that produced consistent sets of attractive, salable progeny sought by the club lamb sector. He is a very aggressive breeder and prospective buyers attending the ‘08’ and ‘09’ sales were appreciative of the sons and daughters offered from this stylish young sire. Of the daughters I have kept from this ram, milk has been outstanding, with great udders and teat placement. This ram will be used in both the Tipton and Iowa City flocks for the 2010 crop.

This was the high selling ram lamb in my ‘07’ production sale purchased by the MacCauley family, PA. I retained early breeding rights on 7012 for two seasons, which has proven to be an excellent decision. This 38 son is extremely long and he sires that trait and more. He has an exceptional front half, high headed and very smooth shoulder. When I look at his width of pins and fullness of leg, I want to make some changes but there is where he really surprises, consistently producing large loins (his lambs had the largest REA averages for the ‘09’ crop, his adj. REA as a lamb was 3.79 sq. in.), long rumps and full legged offspring. The dam of this guy is an exceptional Kimm 22 daughter. His lambs found favor with buyers in the ‘09’ sale, breeders wanting to keep size, production and design all in check. Kimm 7012 sired a ram lamb for Bill (MacCauley 2010) who was named Champion Slick Shorn Suffolk Ram at the ’08’ NAILE, a ram the MacCauley’s used as a lamb last year and plan on using even more for this fall. 7012 will be used at both the Dysart and Tipton flocks this fall.

Ewes Exposed - 24

I leased this ram last year mid way into the 2008-breeding season and seeing how well his offspring were received in this year’s sale went ahead and purchased full possession. His pedigree will be a percentage (92%) but when bred to full bloods in my flock, his offspring end up being 96%, considered purebred by the USSA. It is interesting when I am talking to people and they refer to a particular sheep as “that is a Bob Kimm type sheep”. Well this is one of those that fits that discription and is complete, correct and full of muscle (especially through his britches) and I like the way he stamps this into his lambs. No, he is not big enough for some (maybe not for me with the larger end of my program) but I feel he brings so many positive pieces into the mix, all of which make consignments in my production sale that are sought by prospective buyers. His offspring found many friends from the club lamb sector plus commercial buyers wanting to package more muscle into their lambs. This ram’s dam was shown by Qwen’s son and captured reserve champion in the 2003 Iowa State Fair 4-H Blackface Comm. Ewe Division. 613 will be used at the Tipton and Iowa City flocks this fall.

Kimm 02235-08015 RR/NN This is the “Platinum” son I saved back from the 2008 lamb crop. His dam represents one of my strong older maternal lines and has always produced keeper females for me. The entire Meadows 5211 “Platinum” offering sold in the ‘08’ sale were very well received. The 5211 daughters retained have been everything one could ask for as young brood ewes. I felt 8015 was one of the longest bodied, productive sons (adj. 60 day wt was 95 lbs and adj. REA at 3.25 sq. in.) sired by M-5211, who had an exceptionally good twin sister (adj. 60 day was 86 lbs and adj. REA at 3.76 sq. in.) and was retained in the flock. I also feel 8015 will help address fiber concerns (he is very pink skinned with no indication of color) while his dam represents a complete outcross from the MC 38 and Kimm 22 lines. This guy was used to cleanup at the Iowa City flock last year and Rich was very pleased with his consistency, his lambs were clean fleeced, had great hip shape, length and plenty of muscle. He will be used at the Tipton and Dysart flocks this year.

Ewes Exposed - 20

Purchased last year from Sam and Pat Wilford, OH, I left this guy grow out for over the past year. I am always on the lookout for that next piece of genetics to tweak the Kimm program and told the Wifords to let me know when they felt they had a ram to fit my ‘Balanced Genetics’ philosophy. I feel his most outstanding traits are growth, great feet and legs, bone and he measures with a very long hindsaddle percentage. I also feel he should sire clean fleeces, based on information Sam supplied. He is another genetic package which offers a complete outcross on the dam side and from an old line Slack sire. He will be used in both the Tipton (where Bubba is very excited about seeing what this guy will do) and Dysart flocks.

Ewes Exposed - 35

This is a Kimm 7012 son by a Slack female who was Gr. Champion Wether Dam at the ‘05’ Midwest Stud Ram Sale, Sedalia, MO. I leased a three quarter brother from MacCauley (Mac 1893, same dam and another Mc 38 son) for the 2008 crop. That ram produced some outstanding, consistent females. They were more conventional in size but very complete. What impresses me about 2087 is his style, muscle and correctness in a large package then the 1893 ram. He has a super rack, long hindsaddle and consistent top shape design. He was the Res. Champion Suffolk Ram at the show and sale in Eaton, OH, mid May this year. He created a lot of interest at that time and ended up being the high selling Suffolk ram. Time will tell what he is made of and I am more then anxious to see this guy’s lambs on the ground. He will be used at the Tipton and Dysart flocks this fall.

Ewes Exposed - 5

This yearling ram is being leased from Bill for the 2009 breeding season. He will be the only ram I will use this fall with frame in his pedigree (something that has been very disappointing for me, considering the frame bred rams brought in over the years). Many seem to like my style of sheep but feel they need to be bigger, well ever time I have tried, the results has been: less muscle, less correctness (tops and undderping) and most of all lack of consistency. This guy is straight, long, powerful fronted and has a Kimm dam on the bottom side (check out the ext. pedigree), that was a ewe Bill purchased in my ‘05’ sale. His sire is MacCauley 1955 who was the Grand Champion Suffolk Ram at the 2007 NAILE. He brings a complete outcross on the topside and the dam goes way back to Fields bloodlines. He will be used sparingly on ewes at both the Tipton and Dysart locations, hoping to produce some females to be retained into this program.
